Morris Co., NJ: Morris County Sheriff's Office hosting medication drop-off Saturday

The Morris County Sheriff’s Office is hosting on Saturday the American Medicine Chest Challenge, which encourages people to safely and responsibly discard unused and expired medications.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., unwanted prescription and over-the-counter medications can be disposed of at three locations:

The Morristown Medical Center Emergency Room, at 100 Madison Ave. in Morristown;

The Morris County Public Safety Training Academy, Lobby 1, at 500 W. Hanover Ave. in Parsippany;

Madison’s Police Department is holding a similar event at its Public Safety Building, at 62 Kings Road.

The event is part of a public health initiative meant to raise awareness about the perils of prescription drug abuse, and is being held in communities throughout the state. The statewide event is coordinated by the Partnership for a Drug-Free New Jersey, the Sheriff’s Association of New Jersey, and the Drug Enforcement Administration.

Five-step challenge

The program challenges people to take a five-step “American Medicine Chest Challenge,” which includes locking medicine chests, talking to children about dangers of prescription drug abuse, safely disposing of unneeded medication and taking inventory of one’s prescription and over-the-counter medications.
