NORTH MISSISSIPPI, MS: Get Rid of Your Stash!

NORTH MISSISSIPPI - More than 6 Million-people, age 12 and older, abused prescription drugs last month. Some north Mississippi law enforcement departments are teaming up, in an effort to reduce that number.

Officials in Lee, Pontotoc and Monroe Counties, as well as Amory and Houston have joined the Region III Resource Center to host the American Medicine Chest Challenge. The event encourages citizens to safely dispose of their unused, unwanted and expired medicine.

"We're seeing it more from the rehabilitation side because we're admitting more and more people that prescription drugs are a problem and they're getting them however they can," Region III Director of Alcohol and Drug Services, Amanda Wilson says.

The American Medicine Chest Challenge will be held on November 13th. There will be 5 collection sights:

  • Lee Co. Sheriff Office, 510 North Commerce, Tupelo MS.
  • City of Amory Park, Main St., Amory MS
  • Monroe County Sheriff Office, North Meridian St., Aberdeen MS
  • Downtown Houston (Old Sheriff Office), 210 Harrington St., Houston MS
  • Pontotoc Co. Sheriff Office, 490 Highway 6 West, Pontotoc MS.
