Columbia, SC: SC police round up prescription drugs

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Community leaders and law enforcement officers in Richland and Lexington counties hoping to cut down on drug abuse are helping round up unwanted and expired prescription drugs.

The Midlands Drug Free Community Collaborative on Saturday are hosting drug disposal sites as part of the American Medicine Chest Challenge.

Authorities are people to clean out their medicine cabinets. People can also take unwanted pills to locked drop-off boxes at locations throughout the area.

The prescription drug take-back program includes educational materials to assist parents in detecting and preventing youth substance abuse.
