Cincinatti, OH: Hundreds Dispose Of Medication During DROP Event

Sheriff: 480 Pounds Of Drugs Collected In Clermont County

Hundreds of people took advantage of an opportunity to safely dispose of their unused and expired medicine this weekend.

The Southwest Ohio Dispose Responsibly of Pharmaceuticals group organized the drop-off event at 22 locations across Hamilton, Clermont and Warren counties Saturday.

Workers said the event was part of the American Chest Challenge -- a nationwide day of disposal for unwanted and expired medicine.

Clermont County Sheriff A.J. Rodenberg said the county collected 480 pounds of medication during the event.

Organizers said DROP is made up of local health, safety and environmental groups who are working to reduce the amount of stored and improperly disposed of pharmaceuticals that enter the environment.

DROP aims to make people aware of the dangers of prescription drug abuse and on the toll that improperly disposing of medication can cause to waterways and the environment.
