NJ Mission

The Right Prescription for New Jersey...

The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) New Jersey Division, along with the United States Attorney’s Office, District of New Jersey, The New Jersey Attorney General’s Office, Division of Consumer Affairs, the New Jersey State Commission of Investigation, the New Jersey Department of Education, the Partnership for a Drug Free New Jersey, the New Jersey Prevention Network, and others will undertake an educational initiative to address parents of school-age children regarding the abuse of prescription drugs.  The initiative is titled:

“The Right Prescription for New Jersey”

This program will target New Jersey parents through several multi-media messages, including 30-second radio advertisements, billboard postings, train and bus advertisements, web banners, and handouts to school and prevention professionals for distribution to the PTAs.

The Right Prescription for New Jersey in 5 easy steps...

In addition, this program will promote the American Medicine Chest Challenge (AMCC) 5-step challenge:

1.  Take inventory of your prescription and over-the-counter medicine.

2.  Secure your medicine.

3.  Dispose of your unused, unwanted, and expired medicine in your home or at your local police departments during the DEA's Take Back programs; at Project Medicine Drop, available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year from the Division of Consumer Affairs and participating police; or at an American Medicine Chest Challenge Disposal site.

4. Take your medicine(s) exactly as prescribed.

5. Talk to your children about the dangers of prescription drug abuse…they are listening.

Further, the initiative partners will conduct media and educational events statewide during the week of September 24-29, 2012, during the “National Prescription Drug Awareness week” and ending with the DEA’s National Take Back program on September 29, 2012, aimed at cleaning out home medicine cabinets of unused, unwanted, and expired prescription medication.
